The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources in collaboration with the Ministry of health and human services have undertaken concerted effort to address the welfare and health needs of communities around the dumpsite in Ado Ekiti.
This initiative includes the distribution of cash palliatives and mosquito nets to the residents of the Ilokun/Irasa Community.
The Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources,Erelu Tosin- Aluko Ajisafe, , emphasized that the Programme underscores the government’s commitment to the well-being of the people of the state.
She highlighted previous efforts, such as the fumigation of the dumpsite, aimed at ensuring a safe environment for residents.
Commending Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s dedication to preventing epidemics in Ekiti, the Commissioner expressed gratitude for the support provided for the initiative.
The Ekiti State Commissioner for Health and Human services,Dr. Oyebanji Filani outlined the programme’s objectives, which include sensitization and on-the-spot vaccination for children in the Community.
Dr. Filani emphasized the broader goal of eradicating diseases from Ekiti communities and thanked the governor for facilitating the necessary logistics.
In their remarks , permanent secretaries from both ministries, Mr. Babatunde Alokan and Mrs. Olusola Gbenga-Igotun urged residents to prioritize cleanliness and epidemic free activities in their surroundings.
The Olokun of Ilokun,Chief Akeem Adewumi, expressed gratitude to Governor Oyebanji for extending palliatives to the community and pledged support for government initiatives.
The event also featured discussions on various health matters like nutrition, malaria, health insurance, tuberculosis/HIV, and the introduction of the women’s papillomavirus vaccine against cancer.
Among the dignitaries present were Mrs. Mary Oso-Omotosho, Director General of Community Communication, Mr. Olasunkanmi Onipede, Director General of Ekiti Waste Management, Engineer Osalusi, General Manager of Ekiti Waste Management, Special Assistant on Flood Management, Mr. Fatai Jamiu and Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Social Development Funmilola Adeyemo ,among others.
