The June 18 governorship election in Ekiti state has come and gone, and the winner has emerged. The people of Ekiti State voted for the candidate of their choice, Mr. Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress now Governor-elect of Ekiti State based on their conviction that he is the one that is capable of giving them the kind of governance that guarantees better future for them.
Before his emergence as Governor-elect, many things have been said about this Ikogosi-Ekiti born politician and astute administrator. He was branded as an homegrown and the most experienced person to govern Ekiti state.
Now that he has been entrusted with that mandate to govern Ekiti, the question to ask yourselves now is, “Will our Governor-elect make a positive difference”
To me, I will answer by saying, ‘Yes’ based on my own opinion and conviction. The Governor-elect has taken some steps after his election that shows that he is ready to make positive difference. What are these steps?
Firstly, he embarked on consultation with Ekiti stakeholders and leaders irrespective of party differences which is a clear indication that he really means business and ready to accommodate ideas and bring everyone on board for the betterment of Ekiti state.
Another indication that Mr Oyebanji will make a positive difference as Governor of Ekiti is the ongoing ‘thank you tour of LGs’ embarked by him.
Many people have described the thank you tour by the Governor-elect as unusual and unexpected of a politician. For Mr. Oyebanji to deem it fit to appreciate the people of Ekiti state for their support and votes really shows that he is going to make a positive difference.
If someone could appreciates a favour done to him and deem it fit to appreciate back in turn, it means the person valued what was done for him and will not mismanage or misuse the opportunity. Such can be said of the Governor-elect, because he valued the favour done him and will never misuse it.
According to a popular saying, “Thursday will judge how Friday is going to look like”
The Governor-elect has with the steps taken by him before his inauguration sent a clear signal of what direction is administration is going to take.
We hope for better Ekiti and positive governance as our Governor-elect is set to be sworn-in in soonest.
