In a decisive move that underscores his administration’s commitment to economic revitalization, Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji of Ekiti State has successfully reactivated the long-dormant Odua Textile Factory.
Dormant for over 20 years, the factory now hosts the / , a significant stride in the administration’s agenda to combat youth unemployment and poverty while boosting industrialization.
This project, spearheaded by the State Commissioner Mrs. Omotayo Adeola of the Ministry of Trade, Industry, Investment & Cooperatives, and in collaboration with the MSME Secretariat (Office of the Vice President of Nigeria), is a testament to the Governor’s vision for a prosperous Ekiti State.
The hub features over 300 advanced machines, including industrial sewing, whipping and weaving, monogram, heat transfer, dryer, industrial printers and a 100KVA generator, positioning it as a central pillar in the state’s industrial ecosystem.
During its construction, the project provided direct employment for over 600 Ekiti youths, including bricklayers, tilers, electricians, painters, cleaners, welders, carpenters, borehole drillers, and machine installers.
This move not only tackled immediate unemployment but also laid the groundwork for sustainable job creation and skill development, reflecting the administration’s proactive approach to economic challenges.
Governor Oyebanji’s commitment to supporting the hub’s output by ensuring government patronage of the products made in the facility guarantees a stable market for the trainees, fostering economic stability and growth. The Fashion and Garment Hub is set to offer comprehensive training programs in fashion, tailoring, and ready-to-wear production, specifically targeting both employed and unemployed youths in Ekiti State.
In a recent announcement, Commissioner Omotayo Adeola highlighted the administration’s future plans, revealing the upcoming establishment of an MSME ICT Hub within the Odua Complex. This new initiative will provide critical services such as virtual offices, co-working spaces, business support tools, and free internet access, enhancing the support framework for MSMEs in the state.
