Mr. Rauf Aregbesola, the Minister of Interior, claimed on Monday that the Fulanis are neither adversaries of the country’s southern region or Nigeria as a whole.
This followed widespread speculation that the Fulanis were to blame for the attack on St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State, in which at least 50 worshippers were shot and others sustained various degrees of injuries.
Rauf Aregbesola, while paying a visit to the Governor of Ondo State, stated that the government would begin a full manhunt for the offenders and that they would face the full wrath of the law in no time.
He, on the other hand, asked Nigerians to stop blaming the Fulanis for the attack, saying that the Fulanis are not our enemy because they have coexisted peacefully for years.
He went on to say that those who carried out the attack merely wanted to create chaos and push different tribes against one other.
