He is well positioned and favoured to be the APC Presidential Candidate should the delegates look in the direction of the Southern Nigeria.
However, much still depends on the outcome of the PDP Presidential Primaries because whichever Geo-Political Zone the PDP Presidential Candidate comes from will determine, to a large extent, the voting pattern of the APC National delegates at the National Convention that comes up two days after the PDP Presidential Primaries.
Should the APC Presidential Candidate emerges from the Northern Nigeria, the Candidate will surely be a Muslim and will pair with a Christian Vice Presidential Candidate from the Southern Nigeria, specifically South West due to its voting strength.

The two outstanding Christian Presidential aspirants from the South West are Dr Kayode Fayemi and Professor Yemi Osinbajo.
Osinbanjo has been Vice President for the constitutionally allowed two terms and inelligible for another term ( third term). Hence, Dr Kayode Fayemi becomes a perfect choice!
Ekiti will be in the Presidency in 2023.
