In the word of Anonymous, one will deduce that it is only a man of integrity and good character keeps to hi
s promise. One thing is to make a promise and another is to fulfill it.
In the political context, politicians are seen by the electorates as people with failed promises. They are of the belief that politicians make promises just to solicit for vote.
While this may be so with some politicians but among them we still have those that keep to their promises.
It is on this note that I will like to take Hon. Olusola Steve Fatoba, a member of the house of representatives representing Ado, Irepodun-Ifelodun Federal Constituency at the National Assembly as a typical example of politician that keep to his promise.
This Ado-Ekiti born politician ventures into politics with the sole aim of contributing positively to the development of his society.
Exactly three years ago, he brought himself before the people of Ado, Irepodun-Ifelodun, promising them better representation if elected as House of Representatives Member.
Many then might not have taken him serious with all his promises, dismissing it as one of the normal promises made by Nigerian politicians.
But today they have realized that Hon. Olusola Fatoba is a man that should be taken serious for his words. Whatever comes out from his mouth should not be taken lightly. He is a man of his word.
He has with his outstanding performance within a space of two years justified the massive votes given to him by the electorates to represent them at the National Assembly.
He has given a new definition to act of representation and made us to know that a federal lawmaker can attract physical capital project to his or her constituency.
He has opened our eyes to numerous benefits that can be enjoyed by constituents which has not been known before under previous federal lawmakers in Ekiti Central Federal Constituency one.
It is an indisputable fact that Hon. Olusola Steve Fatoba’s three years’ reign as Reps Member has brought progress to Ado, Irepodun-Ifelodun Local governments.
Hon. Olusola Steve Fatoba’s achievements in the last two years as Reps. Member shall be critically examined one after the other.
*Achievement In Area Of Education:*
Immediately after his Inauguration in 2019 as Reps Member, Hon. Olusola Steve Fatoba hit the ground running by organizing free holiday coaching for SS3 students in Ado, Irepodun-Ifelodun LGs.
This programme which was widely acknowledged by all and sundry sent a signal that Hon. Fatoba is ready to keep to all his electoral promises.
The free holiday coaching programme took place in some selected schools in Ado, Irepodun-Ifelodun which include, AUD secondary school, Ado-Ekiti, CAC secondary school, Ado-Ekiti, Christ’s Girl’s school, Awo Community High School, Ekiti Baptist High School, Igede-Ekiti, Igbemo Community High School, Igbemo-Ekiti, Eyio Community High school, Eyemote Grammar school, Iyin-Ekiti.
Hon. Fatoba furthered in his quest to improve the educational life of students in his constituency by facilitating the construction of 3 ICT centres and block of class rooms in six schools in Ado, Irepodun-Ifelodun LGs.
These schools include:
(1) Christ’s school, Ado-Ekiti- ICT Centre
(2) All Soul Anglican School Ado-Ekiti- ICT centre
(3) Ado Community Grammar School, Ado-Ekiti- ICT centre
(4) AUD, secondary school, Ado-Ekiti- a block of two classrooms
(5) Ado Grammar School, Ado-Ekiti- A block of six classrooms
(6) Igbemo-Ekiti Comprehensive High School- A block of Six Classrooms
(7) Are/Afao Ekiti comprehensive High School- A block of 2 classrooms
(8) Ekiti Baptist High School, Igede-Ekiti- A block of two classrooms
(9) Awo Ekiti Community High School, Awo-Ekiti- A block of 2 classrooms.
(10) Blocks of Classrooms at Omodewa Primary School, Iworoko-Ekiti.
(11) Blocks of Classrooms at Muslim Nursery/Primary School, Awo-Ekiti
(12) Blocks of Classrooms at Government Science college, Iyin-Ekiti
(13) ICT centre at Eyemote Anglican Secondary school
In addition, Rep. Fatoba distributed instructional materials, science laboratory equipments, school uniforms to schools in Ado, Irepodun-Ifelodun
*Agriculture:*
in fulfilment of his electoral promise to boost agricultural production in his constituency, Hon. Olusola Steve Fatoba distributed fertilizers, chemicals and modern farm equipments worth millions of naira to farmers in his constituency. Not only that, he also gave out garri processing equipments to farmers
He went ahead by sponsoring constituents on various Agric. programmes within and outside the state.
Hon. Fatoba as a farmer himself knows the importance of agriculture and he is not relenting to see to its improvement in his constituency.
*Health Care Delivery*
Concerned about the welfare of his constituents, Rep. Fatoba facilitated the construction of a multi-million naira health centre at Fajuyi housing estate(Irewolede) in Ado-Ekiti. The health centre was named after the first lady of Ekiti state, Her Excellency, Erelu Bisi Fayemi.
Hon. Fatoba also donated cancer screening machines to Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital(EKSUTH).
This initiative by Hon. Fatoba was well applauded by all and sundry.
The first lady of Ekiti state, Her Excellency Erelu Bisi Fayemi, during the commissioning of the edifice commended Hon. Fatoba for his exemplary leadership style.
*Infrastructural Development*
One laudable thing Hon. Fatoba has done is the attraction of physical capital projects to his constituency such as provision of solar streetlights at Ogbon Oba/Okeila/Ojumose in Ado-Ekiti, construction of roads at Isinla community, ongoing completion of Biotech resource centre, Igede-Ekiti and ongoing completion of modern town hall at Igede-Ekiti.
*Facilitation of FG Grants And programmes For Constituents:*
It is an indisputable fact that constituents have enjoyed more FG grants and programmes through the influence and effort of Hon. Olusola Steve Fatoba.
Some of the grants and loan programmes enjoyed by constituents include, COVID-19 loan, Survival fund, Conditional Grant Scheme(CGS), women grant e.t.c
*Securing of Job for constituents*
Hon. Olusola Steve Fatoba in his determination to reduce unemployment among youths especially universities graduates in his constituency, secured Federal government civil service Job for constituents.
*Contribution and moving of motions on the floor of the green chamber*
Hon. Olusola Fatoba has been a strong voice for his people and made contributions on the floor of the green chamber with the moving of laudable motions.
The motions moved by Hon. Fatoba include, motion on the reduction of interest of lending rate by commercial banks and motion on the activities of port users at Apapa Port, Lagos.
Hon. Fatoba has with his contribution on the floor of the green chamber changed the face of representation in Ekiti Central Federal Constituency one.
*Financial Assistance*
Hon. Olusola Fatoba has in the last two years as Reps. Member rendered financial assistance to constituents in various forms. During the celebration of his 53rd birthday on October 10 last year, he gave out business support grants to constituents ranging from 100 thousand to 200 hundred thousand.
Many have described this gesture by Hon. Fatoba as first of its kind.
*Empowernment*
The last not the least is the recent empowernment programme where more than 200 people in Ado, Irepodun/Ifelodun were empowered with cash, agricultural equipments and other various items such as vulcanizing machine7 cycles, generators, deep freezers, sewing machines, sets of garri processing machines and others.
The week long empowernment programme has been described by people as laudable and first of its kind.
*Contribution To Party*
Since his Inauguration as member of the green chamber, Hon. Fatoba has never deviated from his responsibility to the party in terms of financial contributions.
He has also taken out his time to grace most party functions within and outside his constituency.
Hon. Olusola Steve Fatoba is a loyal member of the All Progressives Congress(APC).
With the above listed performance of MHR Fatoba in the last three years, it is evidenced that he has kept to all his electoral promises so far and deserves to be supported for another term.
