A philanthropist, Yeye Akorede of Erijiyan Ekiti, and founder of Oluwatoyin Abegunde foundation, Barr. Oluwatoyin Abegunde has distributed school materials worth half a million to 100 Pupils in Erijiyan Ekiti community as part of the activities marking the Oju Ohan Cultural festival in the 2024 Erijiyan Ekiti day celebration.
The beneficiaries were selected after a debate powered by her NGO, Oluwatoyin Abegunde foundation was organized for six primary schools in Erijiyan community and 50 best students were first selected amongst them before the final stage of the competition between, the Erin Ayonigba High School, and Erijiyan Community High School.
In the competition, Jolayemi Damilola of the Roman Catholic Mission Primary School, R. C M emerged 1st position, while Kazeem Quadril of Community Pry School, Ile Aaro, Igbeyin got 2nd position and Oyedele Nifemi of Community Pry school Iwaro in Erijiyan Ekiti got 3rd position.
Other participants who took 4th and 5th positions were Francis Precious of A. U. D, and Michael Daniel of the C. A.C primary schools, Erijiyan Ekiti.
The Moderators were: Dr. Funso Adetule, Hon. Taiwo Omodele and Adegbusi and Adeleke while the Six schools which participated in the debate were: A . U. D. Primary School, Roman Catholic Mission, (R. C. M). Primary School, L/ A Anglican Primary School, C. A. C. Primary School, Ile Aaro Community Primary School, and Iwaro Community Primary School all in Erijiyan Ekiti.
First position of competition goes to Erin Ayonigba High School with 75 points while Erijiyan Community High School came second with 50 points, where we have Popoola Marvellous as the School competition’s Chief mover and Ogunmola Omotade from Erin Ayonigba as Supporter.
In a chat with journalists, Barrister Mrs Abegunde said she enjoyed doing that because of her passion to Improving lives, Impacting, rising to the needs of the pupils, particularly the vulnerable and empowering the younger generation, adding that all these were what she formed her NGO upon.
Mrs Abegunde who disclosed further that she loved giving back to the society, adding that this was what motivated her to initiate the debate where all the those who participated benefited, while all those who emerged 1st, 2nd, 3rd positions and well as every other best selected 50 other participants were also given gifts differently according to their categories.
The lawyer who disclosed that that she expended no lesser than half a million naira to execute the programmes listed, School bags, Drinks, biscuits and sweets as gifts she distributed which they kids went home with.
The Monarch of the town, The Olohan of Erijiyan Ekiti, His Royal Majesty, Oba ( Dr.) Oludare Adegoroye Omosebi commended Chief Mrs. Oluwatoyin Abegunde’s gesture and urged other well to do sons and daughters of the community to emulate her.
