…As Ekiti women honor First Lady
Wife of Ekiti State Governor, Erelu Bisi Fayemi has reiterated her interest to continue to promote rights and interest of women even after leaving office.
Erelu Fayemi stated this in Ado Ekiti during the celebration of Obinrinkete Day , organized in her honor by Ekiti women from all works of life across Ekiti state.
The Governor’s wife noted that every woman desire to be heard, seen and empowered to become self reliant hence the reason for her various initiatives that could assist women to be in the limelight.
The first lady therefore thanked the women groups for appreciating her efforts and the support they gave her and her husband during the first and second terms of the outgoing government.
“A lot has been said today about me and what I have done so far. I thank the organizers for counting it worthy to honor me and it gladdens my heart that Ekiti people now recognize the significant role of women in governance ”
“As I am going, I am glad that I am leaving behind a good legacy and army of friends and daughters who will sustain the legacy.”
” The incoming governor’s wife is a woman of wisdom. she is going to bring her own skills to use. I implore you all to embrace and support her” , she emphasised.
Earlier, the Chairperson, Obirinkete Day Planning Committee, chief Kemi Olaleye appreciated the Governor’s wife in recognition of the impact she has made in different areas of human endeavours while in office.
Chief Olaleye identified the areas touched to include; Gender Based Issues , equal opportunities for women, creation of juicy political offices for women, business empowerment, protection of girl child, reduction of Sexual Assualt among others.
Highlight of the event was the presentation of Award and decoration of the First Lady as Mother General as well as declaration of October 6 every year as Obinrinkete Day in Ekiti State by female Members of Ekiti State House of Assembly with a proposal to back it up with law.
The canival-like event attracted personalities from all walks including the wife of Ekiti State Governor – elect ,Dr Yemi Oyebanji, Deputy Governor -elect, Chief Mrs. Monisade Afuye, Secretary to the state government, Mr Foluso Daramola , Wife of Speaker Ekiti State House of Assembly, Mrs Titilayo Afuye , Former Head of Service , Mrs Peju Babafemi,Eyesorun of Ado Ekiti , Olori Abosede Adejugbe , representatives of professional, political and informal sector women’s groups among others.
