EKSU VC Commiserates With Gov Oyebanji On Killing of Two Ekiti Obas

The Vice Chancellor, Ekiti State University, Ado – Ekiti, Professor Edward Olanipekun has commiserated with the Governor of Ekiti State, His Excellency, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji over the killing of two monarchs by suspected kidnappers.

In a letter he personally signed, Professor Olanipekun noted that the university community received with rude shock and sadness the killing of two revered monarchs, the Olumojo of Imojo-Ekiti, Oba Samuel Olatunde Olusola and the Elesun of Esun-Ekiti, Oba David Babatunde Ogunsakin by some suspected kidnappers along Ipao-Oke Ako road in Ikole Local Government Area of Ekiti State.

The Vice Chancellor described the gruesome murder of the two traditional rulers as an aberration and clear disrespect to the esteemed traditional stool. According to him, the killing “is callous, sacrilegious and highly condemnable”.

Professor Olanipekun noted further that the incident “has thrown the entire state into a mourning mood thus, truncating the peace the state has enjoyed in the recent past”.

He also commiserated with the people of Imojo Ekiti and Esun-Ekiti in particular and the entire good people of Ekiti State in general during this trying period and prayed for the repose of the souls of the departed monarchs, adding that “May the Almighty God comfort the families and the communities they both left behind”.

A statement signed by the EKSU’s Head, Directorate of Information & Corporate Affairs, Bode Olofinuagun added that the Vice Chancellor also expressed the university’s deep concern over the abduction of some teachers and pupils of the Apostolic Faith Nursery and Primary School, Emure-Ekiti and prayed for the early and safe release of the victims from the kidnappers’ den.
