Following a Stakeholders engagement convened by the Ministry of Trade, Industry, Investment, and Cooperatives, gathering major stakeholders including traders, market associations, artisans, and transport unions, urgent discussions unfolded regarding the incessant surge in commodity prices.
Notably, the Ministry received alarming reports of Purewater prices soaring from 300 naira to 500 naira per bag which was announced by the Association Table water Producers of Nigeria (Ekiti State Chapter).
Following this report, the Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Trade, Industry, Investments and Cooperatives, Mrs. Omotayo Adeola engaged with the association which yielded the following agreements:
1. A temporary halt to the recent price hike by the Purewater association.
2. Directing the association to present a detailed report outlining their current economic necessities prompting a price adjustment.
3. Tasking an impartial evaluation of the proposal alongside a comparative price analysis with neighboring states.
4. These resolutions are poised to equip the government with insights necessary for crafting targeted interventions and empowerment initiatives aimed at addressing the concerns of Purewater association members, thereby averting potential future price hikes.
The Purewater Association executives expressed their appreciation to His Excellency, Gov. Biodun Oyebanji for his commitment towards improving the MSME landscape of the State while also catering for the needs and welfare of the common man and promised to abide by the agreements and resolutions of the meeting.
