The chairman, Ekiti state Sports Council, Mrs Olusola Osetoba has described the 16th place finish of the state contingent at the just concluded National Youth Games in Ilorin, Kwara State as impressive.
Mrs Osetoba while welcoming the state representatives back from the games commended them for putting in their best for the state adding that they would have done better if not the stoppage of some games like relay races where the state runners would have won more medals.
The Sports Council boss gave kudos to all the athletes urging those who were not able to win medals to keep hope alive ahead of future tournaments.
She also urged the state medalists not to relent but rather intensify their trainings now that they are back in the state with an assurance that the Sports Council management will always keep watch over them.
Mrs Osetoba applauded the governor of Ekiti state Dr Kayode Fayemi for approving and supporting the state participation at the 2021 National Youth Games.
She also commended the coaching crew and organizers for their commitment, perseverance and understanding before and during the games.
Ekiti state won 2 gold, 9 silver and 2 bronze medals to finish 13th on the medals table of the 6th edition of the National Youth Games.
On the Ekiti Open Female Tennis championship which begins today , Mrs Olusola Osetoba wished all participants best a d also thanked the International Representative of the Nigeria Tennis Federation, Mr Yemi Owoseni for consistently keeping young tennis players in South West Nigeria and especially Ekiti state engaged through regular tennis tournaments .
She promised to always identify with any performing sports administrator in the state for complementing government’s efforts at developing the youths through Sports.
