Heritagenewsng reports that For Ekiti United football club, the journey to Enugu being the host state of the 2021 NNL Super 8 began in the wee hours of Saturday as all members of the crew including players, coaches, officials and selected supporters were directed to arrive at the take off point as everyone complied and arrived con time.
The journey began few minutes past 7am but due to the distance between Ekiti and Enugu, all crew members stopped over at ikere for breakfast and the journey began shortly afterwards.
It was quite interesting with a reknowned cleric, Pastor Kayode prayed for the team before setting out as there were praise and worship sessions in both christian and islamic ways.
The were no issues as the journey progressed and Team Ekiti United arrived Edo state where rain slowed down the speed.
At about 1pm, the team got to Ekpoma in Edo state and everyone briefly took time to stretch out and get some stuff.
As if the journey was going to be hitchfree all through, Delta state roads hampered it and plenty manipulations were required to escape the rigours caused by rain coupled with bad road network inspite of several hours of “go slow”
The fans however displayed true heroism and genuine interest of the team at heart as they went out of their ways to ease the gridlock that held every vehicle spellbound on a spot for not less than 4 hours.
Around 1 o clock in the morning, the supporters club led by the Chairman, Sunday Afolabi defied the rain and muddy roads to guide the Ekiti United vehicle and remove all blockades on the road which had hitherto obstructed the movement of the team.
The journey that started at about 7am did not end until around 3am on Sunday.
Salt was even added to the injury of everyone who were fagged and worn out as the hotel earlier booked by the management of Ekiti United had all been let out by the hotel management who said demands were high and they could not wait forever.
Swiftly the erudite and articulate secretary, Ayodeji Olowolafe got an alternative makeshift hotel for everyone to sleep till daybreak.
After taking breakfast and light work out by all players, a more befitting hotel was secured and all members of the crew have now settled down and are all relaxing their veins and nerves while the team nurse, Toyin has been busy attending to health issues affecting some officials of Ekiti United including the Team manager, Benbela and media, Qozeem.
On the issue of Welfare, Tolani Agbeni who is in charge had been at her best too as funds were made available for everyone as provided by the state government and some kind hearted Ekiti people including US based Rotimi Arabi who promised to support the team with cash for every goal scored.
The team will later today at about 4pm go the Cathedral Arena which is the venue of the Super 8 for light training.
Monday is rest day for all teams participating in the NNL Super 8 as there will be restriction of vehicular movement due to declaration of pro-Biafra squad that ordered that all shops and offices must remain shut in solidarity with Nnamdi Kanu of IPOB.
