Ekiti SUBEB Flags Off Distribution of Assistive Technology Materials To Special Schools

The Executive Chairman of the Ekiti State Universal Basic Education Board(SUBEB) , Prof Femi Akinwumi has flagged off the distribution of assistive technology materials worth over N70 million procured under the UBEC/SUBEB Special Needs Intervention Programme for 2020, 2021,2022 to three Government-owned Special Schools and six selected Private Providers of special education in the State with a pledge that the State Government would continue to support initiatives aimed at ensuring that all children of school age have access to quality education irrespective of their backgrounds and challenges.

Speaking at the ceremony in Ado-Ekiti , Akinwumi said Government would not relent efforts aimed at mobilizing and enlightening various stakeholders to ensure their commitment and participation in the special education delivery process.

Akinwumi who was represented by the SUBEB Director of Special Education ,Mr Emmanuel Oluwayemi said that the administration of Governor Biodun Oyebanji was fully committed to ensuring that all children of school age are provided with opportunities to enrol into , attend and complete basic education irrespective of their status and their circumstances in life.

He called on parents and stakeholders in the state to take advantage of free, compulsory education policy of government and the National Policy on Education by enrolling their children with special needs in the three Government-owned special schools in the state .

The SUBEB Boss who stated that the partnership between the State Government and UBEC had continued to yield positive results called on the Principals of the benefitting schools to make judicious use of the presented equipment and items

Responding , the Principal of School of the Physically Challenged Ido , Mr Razaq Salami expressed appreciation to UBEC and SUBEB for the gesture pledging that the equipment would be properly utilized

Items presented to the three Government Special Schools include : 10 Perkins Braille Machines, 28 talking calculators , 78 abacus,6 adaptive customized laptop computers ,40 talking clocks and 14 Infrared physiotherapy lamps .

Others include: 36 digital recorders ,14 wheel chairs, 29 walking frames , 24 crutches, 51 exercise Swiss Balls , 16 magnetic quantum analyzers and 18 hearing aids.
