Ekiti State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal To Give Prehearing Report Tomorrow

The Ekiti State Govermoship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Ado-Ekiti will give it’s prehearing report tomorrow in the petition filed by Engineer Segun Oni.

The tribunal took all motions filed in the petition today and reserved ruling on them till the final judgment.

At the prehearing tomorow, the tribunal will give a time table for hearing in the petition.

Oni’s lead Counsel, Owoseni Ajay, drew the attention of the tribunal to the failure of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to release electoral materials used in the June 18 election, after the tribunal had already granted the order.

Tribunal Chairman, Justice Wilfred kpochi, called on INEC Counsel and Oni’s legal team to resolve the matter in good time so that the petitioner can have access to inspect the materials for proper prosecution of his case.

Oni had filed the petition following his claim that the election of Oyebanji in the June 18 gubernatorial election was fraught with irregularities.

Oni is also calling for the tribunal to nullify the election of Oyebanji saying the position of Mai Mala Buni, who was APC’s National Caretaker Chairman at the time of nomination of Oyebanji as governorship candidate was strange to the APC constitution.

Oyebanji had raised preliminary objection against Oni’s petition and challenged the jurisdiction of the tribunal to entertain the petition and called for its dismissal.

The tribunal had also reserved its ruling on the objections till the final judgment.
