Ekiti Sports Commissioner, Awopetu Sheds Light On Objectives, Focus Of Sports Development Trust Fund

The task before the Ekiti State Sports Development Trust Fund is to bring about drastic development to the Sport sector without unnecessarily over-depending on the state government.

These were the words of the Board chairman of Ekiti State Sports Development Trust Fund who is also the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development,Hon.
Micheal Awopetu while speaking to pressmen in Ado.

He said the Trust Fund would focus more on development of sportsmen and women especially in the area of their wellbeing and training equipment.

Hon.Awopetu who noted that there had been a huge dearth in sport equipment in the state assured that funds generated through the Trust Fund shall be expended on acquisition of Sporting equipment that would enhance the performances of athletes before and during sporting competitions.

He also said coaches will not be left out as efforts would be intensified to build their capacity for them to be better equipped for the job.

Hon. Awopetu said every political office holder in Ekiti State would contribute towards the Sports Development Trust Fund adding that governor Kayode Fayemi and his deputy, Otunba Bisi Egbeyemi are going to lead by example in the contribution of funds into the coffers of the Trust Fund.

The Sports Commissioner assured that the Board has swung into action to ensure funds from appropriate quarters are deposited into the dedicated account of the Trust Fund for the year ending 2021.

He expressed optimism that more stakeholders would key into the Sports Development Trust Fund in the coming months as various classes of people and corporate bodies shall be contacted to do the needful towards boosting available funds for sports development.

Hon.Awopetu thanked the state governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi and the state legislators for their efforts at bringing the Sports Development Trust Funds to fusion with an assurance that members of the Board which included the Accountant General of the state, Mrs Titilayo Olayinka and other passionate Sports stakeholders will not let down the trust of Ekiti people and government.
