Ekiti State Government has reiterated its commitment to prioritize student’s welfare.
This declaration was made by the Secretary to Ekiti State Government, Dr(Mrs)Habibat Omolara Adubiaro during a meeting with leaders of student unions which include, National Association Of Nigerian Student Union(NANS) and Federal of Ekiti State Student Union(FESSU).
Dr. Adubiaro while responding to some of the demands of the student union leaders stated that the administration of Gov. Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji takes the welfare of students as top priority. She assured them of more dividend of democracy from the government.
The SSG also made it known to the student leaders that Gov. Biodun Oyebanji is a listening governor who is ready to listen to their yearnings for possible solution.
“I am aware of your request to the Governor for better welfare for students of higher institutions in Ekiti state. Let me assure you that this present administration is ready to prioritize student’s welfare.
“Our governor is a listening leader who is ready to listen to the yearnings of the people. Rest be assured that all that is needed to be done to improve the welfare of students of higher institutions in Ekiti State will definitely be done”
The SSG also commended the student leaders for their readiness to join hand together with government in fight against drug abuse and prostitution among female students. She equally called on them to give necessary support to Oyebanji led administration.
“Let me commend you for your intention to join hand together with the state government in fight against drug abuse and prostitution among female students. It means you are ready to correct all these abnormalities. We are thinking along the same line for the betterment of our society.
“I want to also use this opportunity to call on you to give all necessary support to this present administration so that more dividend of democracy can be enjoyed by our students”
Earlier, Chairman of NANS and that of FESSU had made some demands which include, the need for government to intensify more efforts in fight against drug abuse and prostitution, payment of subvention to state institutions, solution to total black out in EKSU, regular interface with governor, separation of the office of Special Assistant on youth matter from that of student matter and other demands.
The union leaders called on the state government to yield positively to their demand.
