Ekiti Muslim Group Organises Ramadan Lecture in Honour of Late former Commissioner, Yakubu Sanni

… Gov. Oyebanji, Hon. Olarewaju to grace event

For his contribution to the revolution, development and growth of Islam in Ekiti State, a former Commissioner for Land and Housing and one time President of the Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs, (NSCIA) Ekiti State chapter, Alhaji (Barr.) Yakubu Oladoro Sanni, will on Sunday, March 17, be honoured posthumously, with a Ramadan Lecture by the National Council of Muslim Youth Organisation (NACOMYO), Ekiti State chapter.

Sanni, also a former Permanent Secretary and one of the early Law graduates of the University of Ado Ekiti died last year at age of 74.

According to a statement signed by the NACOMYO coordinator in Ekiti State, Alh. Mudasiru O. Yusuf, the event which will be held at the popular Obafemi Awolowo Civic and Convention Center, Fajuyi, Ado Ekiti is themed; ‘Deen over Duniya: The Subtlety to Living a Prosperous Life’.

Alh. Yusuf noted that this year’s Ramadan lecture is being organized in honour of the late Lawyer and top civil servant to re-awake the consciousness of the entire Muslim Ummah on the need to give priority to spiritual aspect of their lives and growth of Islam over worldly and mundane things.

He pointed out that the late Alhaji Sanni didn’t only practically show his commitment to the growth of Islam but spent his entire life to inspire and touch lives in the most positive manners.

He said, “Ramadan is a special month where Muslims are expected to serve Allah meritoriously and have sober reflection over the purpose of their living. NACOMYO is putting this year’s lecture together for the dual purpose of reminding the Ekiti Muslim community of their essence of living as well as honoring one of our best posthumously.

“To those of us who encountered Alhaji Sanni during his short sojourn in life, we can agree unanimously that he spent his life to propagate Islam and touch lives. A principled and incorruptible public servant, the late Muslim leader lived a life worthy of emulation and tried in his own little way to contribute his quota to the development of Islam.

Within and outside the Muslim community, the former Permanent Secretary proved that he was exceptional in promoting justice and fairness in society, an attribute that endeared him to millions of Ekiti people. As the symbol of this year’s event, we want our brothers and sisters in Ekiti and beyond to emulate him, promote Islam and impact lives.

“We brought nothing to this world and we will all leave at our appointed time with nothing, but our good deeds and service in the course of Islam will remain our touch bearers,” he said.

The statement further revealed that Ekiti State Governor, H.E. Abiodun Oyebanji, would grace the occasion as the Special Guest of Honour while Hon. (Barr.) Ibrahim Olarewaju, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Nation Assembly Matters, House of Representatives will be guest of honour.

The statement also indicated that Alh. (Engr.) Taofiq Agbaje with Alhaji Abdulfatah Abdul-Azeez, Imam Adebayo Muslim community, Ado Ekiti who also doubles as NASFAT lead Missioner in the state will serve as Guest Speaker.
