Ekiti State Government has described an allegation that Governor Kayode Fayemi has set up a task force to distrupt the forthcoming gubernatorial election in the State as irresponsible, unfortunate and an attempt to create disaffection that may lead to anarchy in the State for selfish political gains.
Reacting to a publication on a letter purportedly written to the Director of the State Security Services (DSS) by one of Owoseni Ajayi on behalf of Governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party, Mr Segun Oni, the State Commissioner for Information and Values Orientation, Hon Akin Omole stressed that the allegation is absolutely false and a total fabrication borne out of frustration over the failure to diminish the popularity of the Fayemi led administration and the Governorship candidate of the ruling party in the State.
Hon. Omole said that it is unbelievable that a lawyer with about 34 years at the bar and one time Attorney General of the State would involve himself in such irrational petition that is capable of unnecessarily heating up the polity without regards for the possible effect on the peace and tranquility in the State.
Omole noted that it is within the rights of the people to choose and support any candidate they want adding that the two existing Drivers’ Unions that were accused of pitching their tent openly with the present administration and the Governorship candidate of APC, Hon Biodun Oyebanji are bonafide part of the State and the development is a mere reflection of the political leaning of people in the State.
He called on all relevant security organisations not to take the veiled threat of “uncontrollable chaos” with levity adding that necessary investigation should be conducted in a bit to actually forestall breakdown of law and order.
Reiterating the commitment of the State Government to general wellbeing of the people and the protection of lives and property of people in the State, Omole assured that the present administration would remain responsible and continue to uphold the law.
