The Senior Special Assistant(SSA) to Ekiti state Governor on Special Duties, Chief Olufemi Aduloju has called on the State House of Assembly to legislate a bill against drug abuse especially against parents of the children that fall victim of the drug abuse.
Chief Aduloju made the call in his brief remark after he was decorated as the Ambassador against drug abuse by Gbemi Life and Hope Development Organization(GLAHDO) at its sensitization program on drug abuse which was held at Mary Immaculate Secondary school hall, Ado-Ekiti on Thursday.
The Governor’s aide who decried the high rate of drug abuse among youths in our society said it is sad seeing the lives of most children destroyed by drug abuse due to the negligence of their parents. He added that parents whose children fall victims of drug abuse should be imprisoned during the period their children are undergoing treatment and rehabilitation at Arrow.
“Let’s legislate a bill for this drug abuse especially against parents whose children fall victim of this impalatable act. Some parents encourage their children to take this hard drugs. They should rot in jail pending the time their children will be treated and rehabilitated”
The Ado-Ekiti born journalist assured the NGO of government’s support and promised to convey their message for assistance to relevant places. He also called on students and youths to do away with drug abuse for it does them no usefulness.
“I want to assure you that Ekiti state government will partner with you. There is every need to give you all the necessary support to succeed in your cause against drug abuse.
“To our students and youths, do away from the use of hard drugs. It does you no good than to destroy your future. Heed to the advice given you”
Earlier, the founder of GLAHDO, Deaconess Wuraola Lashore in her address said the major focus of the organization is enlightenment campaign against drug abuse and also to inculcate leadership training in children and youths in whom who lies the hope for a better future. She sought for the cooperation of government in deepening the campaign against drug abuse and other social vices.
Among important dignitaries that graced the event were, Ekiti state House of Assembly member representing Oye Constituency 2 and Chairman, House Committee on Youth and Sport, Hon. Idowu Odebunmi, representatives of D.G on community communications, Commissioner of women affairs, the State Superintendent of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency(NDLEA), the Chairman of National Youth Council of Nigeria(NYCN), Mr Segun Bankole and other dignitaries.
