Prof. Modupe Adelabu, former Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, urged youths to seek legitimate means of earning a living as also advised earlier during career talk given to them, cautioning against indulging in fraudulent activities.
Prof. Adelabu made these remarks during an interview with the press on Saturday at the Housing Youth Agenda Carnival held at the Estate Primary School, along Afao Road, Ado-Ekiti.
She emphasized that young people don’t need to engage in unethical practices to succeed.
The former deputy governor expressed her pleasure at the gathering of youths from thirteen communities for the carnival, encouraging them to expand their network, bring in other youths, and create a melting pot where alot of youths will come together and look into the future and think of what they can do to help themselves and their communities.
“I’m glad to address so many youths, to encourage them, and to let them know that if they work with their hands, they will succeed, rather than resorting to fraudulent means to make a living,” She said.
The academic -turned-politician also praised Governor Biodun Oyebanji for his notable achievements, stating that his efforts have endeared him to the youth.
“They have assured me of their unwavering support for the Governor’s administration because his outstanding performance in office has won their hearts,” she assured.
Hon. Sola Elesin, the Acting State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State, who represented Governor Oyebanji at the event, reiterated the Governor’s commitment to women and youth development, emphasizing that it is a priority of his administration.
“Our governor is youth-friendly. He is focused on empowering women and youth, which is a significant part of his agenda,” he stated.
Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr. Adebayo Gold, also spoke at the event, highlighting the various empowerment programs implemented by the Governor, including the Adire Hub, which has trained and empowered about 200 youths, and a training program for 400 youths in agriculture to tackle food insecurity in the state.
The event was attended by several other dignitaries, including Mrs. Mary Oso-Omotosho, Director General of Community Communications, Mr. Francis Akinlabi, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Special Outreach, and Mrs. Mosunmola Tunji-Saliu, SSA on Women Empowerment, Retired Permanent Secretaries among others.
