Ekiti Assembly Engages Security Agencies To Tackle Crime in The State

The Ekiti State House of Assembly in its commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of residents, has engaged the heads of security agencies in Ekiti to address the surge in crime rates across the state.

The interface between the lawmakers and heads of security agencies, including the Nigerian Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Vigilante, the Amotekun and others served as a platform for open dialogue and strategizing on effective ways to tackle rising crime rates in the state.

The Majority Leader and member representing Ekiti SouthWest II, Hon. Tolu Ige who presided over the meeting, emphasized the significance of partnership and synergy among all stakeholders involved in security matters.

Also, the Chairman, House Committee on Security, Hon. Babatunde Omotayo, representing Ise/Orun and the mover of the motion under a matter of public importance, Hon. Dele Ogunsakin stated that the meeting would go a long way in resolving the recent cases of kidnapping and killing of an innocent student of the Federal University, Oye Ekiti, and as well charged the Police to effectively utilise the vehicles and gadgets recently donated to them by the Executive Governor of the State, Mr. Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji.

Reacting on behalf of the Security agencies , the state Commissioner of police, Mr Dare Ogundare said ten suspects have been arrested in connection with the killing of Deborah in Oye, noting that the Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun has directed that Deborah’s killer must be brought to book with thorough investigation.

Mr Ogundare while noting that the meeting was fruitful, promised that the security agencies will not rest on their oars to make the state secure for the residents.

Meanwhile, the House of Assembly also called on the Civil Defence in the state to caution their personnel against the use of excessive force on residents as seen in a viral video circulating in social media.
