Ekiti Assembly Election: Why APC Should Sweep It All

By Wasiu Owolewa

Come Saturday 18, Nigerians will be going to the poll to elect their governors and lawmakers in all the 36 states of the federation. In the election that will hold on Saturday, five states will not be conducting governorship election which Ekiti state is one of them.

Ekiti which is known as the land of honour held its governorship election last year June which saw the All Progressives Congress(APC) governorship candidate, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji emerged as the winner of the contest which was adjudged free, fair and credible.

The House of Assembly election that will take place in Ekiti in less than two days time is described as crucial to the success of the new administration of Governor Biodun Oyebanji.

The election is crucial in the sense that elected lawmakers will work hand in hand with the Governor. The outcome of this upcoming election will determine the fate that will befall the new administration in the coming years ahead.

There is this belief that there should be synergy between the Executive and legislative arms for smooth running of government. This can only be possible if the Governor as the head of the executive arm has majority members in the House of Assembly.

As Governor Biodun Oyebanji is five months in saddle of governance, there is the need for the people of Ekiti state to consolidate his victory by voting for all the 26 House of Assembly candidates. APC should sweep all the 26 seats in the state House of Assembly to enable the Governor run the government of the state effectively.

At this juncture, I want to plead to all aggrieved party members to please sheath their sword and work for the victory of the party on Saturday. This House of Assembly election is not about the candidates but the party itself and the Governor who has been performing wonderfully well since assumption of office.

The people of Ekiti should renew the love they have for BAO by voting for the 26 APC House of Assembly candidates. The victory of APC in Saturday’s election will be a validation of its victory in the June 18, governorship election.
