Ekiti State House of Assembly has commended the Executive Governor of Ekiti State, His Excellency Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji for the recent increment in the subviention of all the State owned tertiary institutions in the State.
The Chairman House Committee on Education, Science and Technology, Hon. Jacob Awoniyi made the commendation during the oversights function of the Committee to Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere Ekiti to inspect the on going developmental projects in the Institution.
Hon Awoniyi said the Committee was in the University to assess the level of work done on the developmental projects embarked upon by the State Government and the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) which enables them to ascertain the quality of the job, he therefore enjoined the School Management to reciprocate the good gesture of the State Government.
However, he commended the Governor for the increment in the subvention to institution and called on the Management to prioritise the welfare of its Staff and to venture into other profitable businesses that can serves as Internally Generated Revenue for the School, noted that the Governor has demonstrated his passion for both infrastructure and human capital development in the state.
The Chairman remarked “With this recent gesture of the State Government, we expect the university to be meticulous in their finances, you should ensure judicious use of available resources at your disposal, improve on the running of the system for the benefit of humanity, he reiterated that the Committee is committed to its oversight functions as empowered by the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) to oversee the State owned Institutions and to ensure strict compliance to the provision of the law that established them” he said.
Other members of the Committee were, Honourables Bode Adeoye, Oladele Ogunsakin and Babatunde Oke, also contributed greatly to the discussions and as well commended the School management for maintaining cordial relationship with the host community and for embarking on infrastructure development in the University.
Earlier, the Vice chancellor of the University, Professor Olufemi Victor Adeoluwa thanked the Committee for carrying out their oversight function to the University, he described the institution as the fastest growing University in the country.
noting that the university within three years of its existence has the enrollment of over Thirteen thousand (13,000) Students and all their courses were fully accredited by the University regulating authority.
Prof Adeoluwa also appreciated the efforts of the State government and that of the Legal luminary, the Pro-Chancellor of Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN) for their contributions to the rapid growth of the University towards making the University to become one of the best Universities in the 21st century.
He reaffirmed the readiness of the institution to partner with the Ekiti State House of Assembly to improve the standard of education in the State and to make the School a World Class Citadel of Learning among the Universities in Nigeria.
Meanwhile, the Vice Chancellor as well used the occasion to appealed to the general public who are willing to build hostel accommodation within the School environment, not to hesitate to contact the appropriate authority for negotiation on the allocation of land for the project.
