The governorship candidate of the Accord Party in Ekiti State, Opeyemi David Falegan, has dismissed rumours suggesting that he is negotiating to step down for Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji ahead of the state’s governorship election.

In a statement issued by his campaign spokesman, Ajayi Adewale Victor, the campaign described the claim as false, baseless and politically motivated.

The statement clarified that at no time had Falegan entered into any negotiation or discussion to trade his party’s ticket or withdraw from the race in support of Oyebanji’s second-term ambition.

According to the campaign, the allegation being circulated in some political circles and on social media was aimed at misleading the public and creating confusion within the political space in Ekiti State.

The spokesman maintained that Falegan remained committed to the mandate given to him by members and supporters of the Accord Party, stressing that his aspiration was driven by a genuine desire to provide credible leadership and a new direction for the state.

He further noted that the spread of such misinformation by some opposition elements was a desperate attempt to weaken the growing support base of the party and divert attention from the key issues affecting the people of the state.

Reaffirming the candidate’s position, the campaign insisted that Falegan was firmly in the race and focused on offering what it described as people-oriented leadership anchored on development, transparency and accountability.

The campaign therefore urged members of the public and supporters of the party across Ekiti State to disregard the rumours and remain committed to the movement for positive change.
