Heaven was let loose on Tuesday at the campus of the Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, when a student of the institution, Oyeyemi Olalekan, physically assaulted a chief lecturer in the institution, Dr Azeez Olakunke Adewoyin, his driver and other people in sight.

Oyeyemi, popularly known as Emir Ajagungbade, is a close associate of Osun state governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, as he is a member of the Transport Disciplinary Committee empanelled this January by the state government.

He previously worked in the transition committee of the Adeleke government.

In an interview, a student of the state polytechnic, who would not like his name in prints for fear of, what he described as, cruel attack by Oyeyemi and his gang, said : ” Oyeyemi Dauda Olalekan, aka Emir Ajagungbade, is an HND I student in the department of Mass Communication of this school. He was caught engaging in exam malpractice with his mobile phone during first semester examination held at NLH6 hall. But rather than being remorseful after he was caught, he and his gang pounced on the director of exam, Dr Adewoyin and beat a hell out of the hardworking former dean of the Faculty of Financial Studies. He injured Dr Adewoyin and his driver in the course of the disturbance.”

Another student, who also would not like to be named, confirmed Oyeyemi’s somewhat notoriety.

According to him, “Just a mention of Emir Ajagungbade instils fear in every mortar on this campus. And it’s like that across the state. He’s one of the most dreaded notorious thugs in Osun State. His closeness to the powers-that-be in the state has made him untouchable. Even when he was declared wanted by police last year over murder and robbery, the state machinery protected him from arrest. He’s always seen around Governor Ademola Adeleke. In this school, he boasts about his relationship with the state governor and for this reason, everyone, including the Rector, is playing smart: they don’t want to lose their job or lose their lives. This is the sore situation in Iree today.”

When this reporter approached Adewoyin, a teacher in the department of banking and finance, for his side of the story, he rather elected to stay silent, because he had no official authorisation to speak on it.

Meanwhile, a telephone conversation with Mr Bayo Fadeji, the Director of Media, Public Relations and Protocol of the institution, established that there was an uproar on the campus of the institution yesterday.

The spokesperson however added that the situation had since been resolved by the management.

In his words, ” It was just a mild drama that has been put under control. Nothing serious. It didn’t even have anything to do with the said director. It involved his driver. But everything is resolved now.”

Multiple calls made to Oyeyemi Emir’s known phone number were rejected and an SMS sent to it to seek clarification on the issue was not returned until this report was filed.
