Brazil has again spoken in the language of the gods , the practitioners of the Candomblé religion , Brazil’s version of the Yoruba traditional religion yesterday took to the streets of Saopaulo, they sang , danced and realized spiritual activities in broad daylight . they appeased Osumare, an important deity in the Yoruba traditional religion.
The ritual activities which started at about 12 noon , counted with the presence of Brazilian traditionalists , Babalawos and Iyanifas , they appeased the serpent deity of the Yorubas.
Osumare, in the Yoruba traditional religion represents the junction between the male and the female, a union that allows the existence of life, water and earth, mortality and immortality and everything that is double, ambiguous and opposites that complement each other.
Osumare is a large snake that envelops the Earth with its tail and ensures the integration of the planet and the renewal of the universe, governing the transformations.
Lamed Vitória, a Brazilian, Yoruba traditionalist , present at the occasion “ I am glad I witnessed this in my lifetime , i expect more of our traditional worshippers to be bold enough , just like this , and worship their gods in the public , Irunmoles are rejoicing “ she said while chanting in Yoruba language.
Daniel Kairoz , the spokes person of the Terreyro Traditionalists present , “ This is not the first time we are doing this , we have also taken Esu Laalu and other Orishas across the streets of Saopaulo, Brazil “ He said while dancing to the rhythms of Osumare.
