The Lord Bishop of Anglican Diocese of Ekiti, Rt. Revd. Andrew Olusola Ajayi, has urged the Federal Government to urgently take steps that will stem the tide of the unwholesome trend of insecurity in the land.

He made the call in his presidential address at the first session of the 20th synod of Ekiti Anglican diocese hosted by Ido, Isokan, Ife, Babamuboni, Ife Oluwa and Igbemo Archdeaconries the theme of the Synod is: “Victory in Christ – Philippians 4:13 “i can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me”.

The Bishop warned that the deleterious effects of insecurity on our farmlands are food shortages, high costs where available and starvation and that urgent action must be taken to stem insecurity, If the desire for food security is not to be illusory.

“There can be no food security, if the farmers who produce foods for our nation cannot stay and work in safety on their farms, there will always be scarcity of foods.

.
“We are also urging that more impetus should be geared toward improvement on the reforms in the financial sector to control spiral inflation and deliberate sabotage and distortions in the exchange rates of Naira against other convertible currencies around the globe. Governments at various levels should urgently cooperate with a view to increasing the purchasing power of the Nigerian workers nationwide for its utility and multiplier effects.

“Nigerians must be our brothers/sisters’ keeper. The attitudes of many of us are making things difficult and worse for ourselves. Hoarding of food items and other essential commodities for high profits, the everyday increment in the prices of services, goods and food items in our markets is alarming and needless.

“We wish to commend and encourage President Ahmed Bola Tinubu on the efforts of his administration in tackling the debilitating issues of insecurity, poverty, capital flight and mass unemployment that are currently ravaging our nation. Objectively, while we agree that there is no magic wand to fix overnight the myriads of problems that this administration inherited, we however believe there is now an urgent need to do more to ease the pains of our people and for reassessment of the reforms being undertaken so far because the people are not positively feeling the effects of those reforms”, HE SAID.

Bishop Ajayi told the congregation: “Truly we are aware of the challenging realities but we have a God that stands as our ultimate reality. Truly there is tension everywhere in the nation and in our respective families but we have the One whose nature is not just to assuage our tensions but to quench it totally.

“Let us be hopeful and positive as our stories in the midst of the challenges of life shall meet divine intervention. Be positive in your approach to challenging situation and prophesy that Nigeria will be good and bless our leaders at all times. Let us continue to put our trust in Him and be committed to Him.
