ASUSS National President Commissions Balyesa State New Secretariat, Inaugurates EXCO
The new State Secretariat for the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools, ASUSS Bayelsa state Chapter had been commissioned by the National President of the Union, Comrade Sam Omaji.
Newly elected members of the ASUSS State Administrative Council, SAC of Bayelsa chapter was also inaugurated to run the affairs of the Union.
The twin events were performed by the president in the company of some national leadership of the Union in Yenagoa on Thursday.
Opening the Secretariat, the National President of ASUSS, Comrade Sam Omaji who was represented by the National Secretary-General and Ekiti State TUC Chairman, Comrade Sola Adigun commended the leadership of the Union in the state for putting the Secretariat together.
Mr. Omaji said the new Secretariat was another confirmation that the union was prepared to mobilize its members and provide purposeful leadership for all cadres of Secondary Schools teachers in the state.
Shortly after the office complex’s commissioning, the president performed the swearing ceremony on the new members of the state exco by administering the oath of allegiance and oath of office on them.
The President, who spoke through the National Secretary-General, Comrade Sola Adigun charged the newly elected officials to see their election as a call to service.
“Your election is a call to service. Remember, a Union is a democratic fighting organisation. You must question yourself and push yourself. Employees of teachers would drag you, but you must be firm, mature, resilient, and honest in your dealings as this remains the only impetus to be respected by your members and your employers”.
He further charted them to be scientific and innovative in the approach to engaging the government for maximum results, reminding them that ” the era of violent unionism is gone. We need knowledge and information that can not be faulted to engage the public and Government”.

Responding on behalf of the entire executive members, the Chairman, Mr. Igbudu Pedro Denise promised that the new leadership would leave no stone unturned in defending the cause of teachers and promoting secondary education in Bayelsa state.
Other members of the exco are
Comrade Chris Quincy as Secretary, Comrade God’spower Nancy as Treasurer, Comrade Opigo Martins Williams as Financial Secretary, and Comrade Ikiyie Preye as PRO among others.
The national delegate is made of the National Secretary Comrade Sola Adigun who represented the National Chairman, the national Treasurer and Kogi State ASUSS chairman, Comrade Dr. Oluranti Ojo, and the Delta State Chairman of ASUS, Comrade Kenneth Okoh.
