Again! Gunmen Reportedly Attack Commuters Travelling On Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

Again! Gunmen dressed in military uniforms reportedly attacked commuters travelling on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Tuesday.

The gunmen suspected to be kidnappers stormed the road from the bush before the Sagamu Interchange en route Lagos and started shooting at motorists in the 18-passenger inter-state bus.

The affected passengers were said to have laid flat inside the bus to avoid being hit by bullets.

In a video taken after the incident, some of the affected passengers narrated how the driver could not control the bus during the shooting.

The video also showed some of the injured passengers.

Confirming the incident, Abimbola Oyeyemi, Ogun police spokesperson, on Wednesday, said the gunmen were kidnappers who wanted to engage in their activities along the highway.

Oyeyemi said the police officers who were present at the highway engaged the gunmen in a gun duel.

“Some of the gunmen left the scene with bullet wounds. At the moment, our men are combing the bush to get the dead bodies of some of the gunmen,” he said.

Over the past few months, there have been a series of reports on the high rate of robbery and kidnapping along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

On October 28, an unspecified number of motorists were kidnapped along the Lagos-Ibadan road, including Adigun Agbaje, a former deputy vice-chancellor (academics) of the University of Ibadan..

Agbaje regained his freedom after spending two nights in captivity.
