In a moment that underscores the power of intellectual pursuit in public service, the former Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly and current member of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Dr. Femi Bamisile, on Saturday clinched a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree at the 30th convocation ceremony of Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado Ekiti.

The federal lawmaker representing Ekiti South Federal Constituency II described the achievement as a defining milestone, reaffirming his belief that sound education remains the cornerstone of effective leadership and sustainable national development.

Bamisile, who has built a reputation for legislative diligence and grassroots engagement, said his academic feat is not merely personal but a call to duty for leaders across Nigeria to embrace knowledge as a tool for transformation.

“This accomplishment is not just about me; it is a testament to the enduring value of education in shaping visionary leadership. In a rapidly evolving world, leaders must continuously equip themselves intellectually to deliver meaningful impact,” he stated.

He stressed that his pursuit of a PhD, even while navigating the demanding terrain of politics and governance, sends a strong message that learning is a lifelong responsibility.

“No position should limit one’s quest for knowledge. If anything, leadership should inspire a deeper commitment to learning, research, and critical thinking,” Bamisile added.

The lawmaker also used the occasion to challenge young Nigerians and public office holders to prioritize education and self-development, noting that the future of the country depends largely on the quality of its human capital.

“We must begin to redefine leadership standards in Nigeria. Academic excellence, competence, and integrity should form the pillars upon which leadership is built. Our youths must see education not as an option, but as a necessity,” he said.

Observers at the convocation described Bamisile’s academic feat as both symbolic and instructive, particularly at a time when questions are being raised about the intellectual depth of leadership in the country.

Political associates and constituents who thronged the event hailed the federal lawmaker for what they termed “a rare blend of academic brilliance and practical governance,” expressing confidence that the new academic laurels would further enhance his legislative contributions at the national level.

“Rt. Hon. Bamisile has once again demonstrated that leadership and scholarship can go hand in hand. This is a proud moment for Ekiti South and indeed the entire state,” a supporter remarked.

The 30th convocation ceremony of EKSU drew dignitaries from across the country, celebrating academic excellence and reinforcing the institution’s growing reputation as a center of learning and research.

For Bamisile, however, the PhD is not a destination but a stepping stone.“This is just the beginning of greater intellectual engagement. I remain committed to deploying knowledge in the service of my people and the advancement of our nation,” he affirmed.
