Ekiti State Commissioner for Information, Rt. Hon. Taiwo Olatunbosun has warned that indiscriminate construction of structures on waterways and dumping of refuse in drains and culverts could aggravate the recurrent incidence of flooding in Ado Ekiti, the State capital.
Rt. Hon. Olatunbosun who gave the warning while featuring on a radio program to discuss the achievements of the state government in the last one year, stressed that the Governor Biodun Oyebanji administration had expended enormous resources on dredging of waterways and de-siltation of drains and culverts, adding that the problem of flood would however not fade away until residents adhere strictly by Urban and Physical Development as well as sanitation laws.
Reiterating the commitment of the administration to the general wellbeing of the people and rapid development of the State, Olatunbosun recalled that Governor Oyebanji has premised his campaign promised on the six pillars that has now metamorphosed into the development pillars of his administration.
He highlighted some of the achievements of the administration to include construction and reconstruction of Ado Ekiti township roads, GRA 3rd Extension Ado-Ilawe, Ado-Iworoko, Igbara-Odo-Ikogosi, Ilawe-Erijiyan, drilling of motorized borehole across towns, renovation of Basic Health Centres, payment of hazard allowances to doctors and clinical health workers in the states’ Ministry of Health and Hospital Management Board, implementation of salary parity for clinical staff of the hospitals’ management board.
Others are prompt payment of salaries, payment of N435,000,000.00 as gratuity to state and local government beneficiary, commencement of free mass transit scheme for public servants and public secondary school students, disbursement of N228,300,000.00 as car loan to 682 public servants, provision of five luxurious buses for mass transit scheme, construction of a 3.75MW Independent Power Plant (IPP), rehabilitation and connection of Erijiyan, Ikogosi and Ikogosi Resorts back to the National Grid to enhance the state tourism corridor.
The Commissioner however seek the continued support of the people for efforts to develop the State stressing that proper development must be seen as a collective responsibility.
