A political pressure group under the auspices of the National Democratic Coalition Renewal group, (NADECORG) has warned antidemocratic forces bent on truncating May 29 handover of power to the new administration of President -elect Bola Tinubu to have a rethink.
The Nigerian Army recently warned against any threats to democracy and national sovereignty as the country prepares to handover government May 29.
The army’s warning came after the Department of State Services (DSS) said it has identified some key players in a plot for an interim government designed to stop the inauguration of Bola Tinubu as president.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Faruk Yahaya, said it would resist any attempt by any violent group. He gave this warning at the 3rd quarter Chief of Army Staff conference in Abuja.
Reacting to the Nigerian Military warning, the NADECORG said that no amount of threat would stop the handover,RG declaring that swearing in of President -elect is sacrosanct.
The group in a statement signed by the National Secretary Dr Afolabi Taiwo- National Secretary, the National PRO, Prof.Adelani Tijani and the National Organizing Secretary, Engineer Sanni Aliyu, lauded the military for the timely response to the enemies of democracy who are determined to take Nigeria back to Egypt.
The statement urged well meaning Nigerians to be vigilant and resist any attempt by aggrieved politicians and their cohorts to drag the country back to another tragic political era of the undemocratic rule that left the nation battered.
It called on those fanning the embers of violence and instability to be better beware, now that their evil plots have been exposed adding that, the constitution of Nigeria has given ample opportunity to any aggrieved politicians to seek redress in court and the process is currently ongoing in various tribunals across the country.
“Our attention has been drawn to the latest warning by the military of attempt by antidemocratic forces to truncate the nascent democracy by attempting to stop the May 29 handover, those who are behind the evil plots should know that the country is bigger than them.
“While we salute the efforts of both the military and the Directorate of State Service (DSS) for their timely ND patriotic response, we urged them not to relent in their efforts at securing the country and also making May 29 handover a reality.
“We urged the people not to allow some selfish, greedy and unpatriotic elements who place their selfish interests above the popular and patriotic interests of the nation, to truncate this transition process and plunge our dear nation into a chaos, ” the statement added.
NADECORG however urged President -elect Bola Tinubu not to be distracted by the activities of the antidemocratic forces, asking him to remain focus on the task of rebuilding the country and putting smiles on the faces of Nigerians.
