How EFCC Was Able TO Arrest 110 Yahoo Boys In Four Cities Within 7 Days

The net of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) caught no fewer than 110 internet fraudsters who were arrested at four cities within the last seven days during early morning raids at their various hideouts following their involvement in internet related criminal activities.

Available information gathered from the Facebook wall and the Twitter handle of the anti graft agency revealed that while 48 of them were on April 25 arrested in Kaduna, the Kaduna State capital, 25 were picked up in Akure, the Ondo State capital, on April 27.

Also, 19 of them were arrested in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, on April 28 while on May 1, 18 were picked up at their hideouts in Enugu, the Enugu State capital.

According to the information, on April 25 in Kaduna, the zonal command of the agency arrested 48 internet fraudsters including two women and two ex-convicts, who just left the prison, in a sting operation following intelligence gathered about their internet related criminal activities.110

The 25 fraudsters that were arrested in Akure were picked up by the operatives of the Benin zonal command of the agency during an early morning operation following actionable intelligence on their alleged criminal activities while various incriminating items were recovered from them.

On Friday, April 28, 19 students of the Akwa Ibom State University were arrested by operatives of the Uyo command of the agency for internet-related criminal offences. They were picked up at their private hostels and were accused of involvement in crypto currency transactions and impersonation.

Also on Monday, May 1, 18 internet fraudsters were arrested by the operatives of the Enugu zonal command of the agency at different locations within Enugu and one of those arrested was said to be the founder of Holy Family School, Abakpa, Enugu, where he used to train how to engage in internet frauds.

There is no doubt that the situation of internet related criminal activities is yet to abate as it seems the act continues to be on the increase going by the number of those arrested within seven days in just four cities in the country.
