It is a tribal society where women bathe only once in their life. They follow this tradition. The Himba community lives in northern Namibia. About 50 thousand people live in it. The area they live in is now known as Kakoland. These people live on the other side of Kunene River.
Women of this community use special herbs instead of bathing and keep their body fresh with its smoke. With the help of this herb, their body smells good. This smoke keeps their body fresh. It also destroys germs.
These women bathe only once during marriage. These women are also forbidden to touch water. So they don’t even wash their clothes. This tradition has been followed for many years.
Apart from that, women here use a special lotion to protect their body from the sun with a mixture of animal fat and hematite. Hematite makes their skin red. This special lotion also protects them from insect bites.
