Stop Promoting Gender Inequality in Ekiti State, Group Tells Wole Olanipekun SAN
A group of Ekiti women in politics has expressed its great concern over the unparliamentary and promotion of Politics of exclusion by some notable SANs in the state who are predominantly men to further promote gender Inequality in the state.
The group expressed its displeasure over this high level of discrimination against women in the state where a woman would be elected to stir the mantle of leadership in Ekiti State house of Assembly and
Would not be allowed to discharge their duties by Men under the ageis of Ekiti SANs sponsored by Barrister Wole Olanipekun SAN.
The group further reflect the need to protect our women in politics against Victimisation, harassment and gender inequality.
Rt Hon Adelugba a female Chartered accountant was duly elected on the floor of Ekiti House of Assembly by the majority members.
The group therefore called on Barrister Wole Olanipekun to please allow the legislators to do their job. Morever, the Ekiti state Assembly is dominated by one party who believe in party surpremacy and internal democracy.
Therefore, the group exercise great fear of victimisation as a result of gender to dismantle the vehicle of peace in Ekiti legislative house in a matter that is exclusively parliamentary simply because a male member of house of Assembly who is a legal person is involved. The group therefore called on Barrister Wole Olanipekun to please allow the legislators to do their job morever, the Ekiti state Assembly is dominated by one party members who believe in party surpremacy and internal democracy.
The legislative matter in Ekiti is more or less a family affair which the party has resolved peacefully
It is unnecessary politicking to further heat the politics of discrimination for these respected SANs to use their positions to subvert the wish and will of the majority in the House of Assembly who have duly elected their leader on the ground of gender.
The Nigerian constitution allows fundamental rights to be observed in every aspect of our lives without being discriminated as a result of race, sex and gender.
The legal luminaries should not use their legal status to intimidate the female speaker that has been rightfull y elected by 17 members out of 25members to complete the slot of the south in the existing zoning arrangement.
