As the organized labour in Ekiti state on Tuesday joined their counterparts across the country to demand a speedy resolution of the federal government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities impasse which has grounded university education in the country in the last five months, the Protest was observed to have been staged peacefully in the state.
Although, the solidarity protest paralysed vehicular and other activities in the Ekiti State capital as workers occupied the Fajuyi Junction in Ado Ekiti, the state capital in the early hours of today.
However, it was a peaceful rally though as security personnel were on ground as labour leaders took turns to address the gathering of workers and students.
The protest which took off from the popular Fajuyi park through bank road to the house of Assembly where they made a detour to Okeiyinmi and terminated it at the governor’s office in Ado Ekiti.
The NLC chairman in the state, Kolapo Olatunde who led the protesters lamented what he described as the lackadaisical attitude of the federal government in meeting the demands of the striking lecturers.
He threatened that the labour force would deploy other measures which could affect the nation’s economy if the government failed to address the situation.
Meanwhile, the crowd dispersed a little after noon and the road blockage was removed for normality to return.
