Ekiti Assembly moves to Crash Hike In price Of Commodities

 

The Speaker of Ekiti State Hou Ekiti se of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Funminiyi Afuye has disclosed that the Assembly is set to pass a bill to check extortionist activities of traders and supplier of goods in the state.

He said that the bill, “Ekiti State Consumer Protection Bill, “is to help in checkmating the activities of extortionists and shylocks in the system.”

The Assembly on Wednesday committed the bill to the House Committee on Investment, Trade and Industry.

Afuye said that the bill was aimed at protecting the masses of Ekiti from shylock marketers, who usually hiked prices of foodstuffs and other commodities.

The Speaker said, “I urge the committees to speedily work on the Consumer Protection Bill and that of the Economic Development Council Bill and report back to the whole House within two weeks.”
