Oyebanji Highlights Legislators’ Role at Inauguration of Former Lawmakers’ Forum

Ekiti State Governor Mr. Biodun Oyebanji has reaffirmed the critical role of legislators in sustaining democratic governance, describing their contributions as central to lawmaking and development.

Governor Oyebanji, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof Habibat Adubiaro, stated this at the inauguration of a forum of former lawmakers at Jibowu Government House, Ado-Ekiti.

He said the defining feature of democracy is the presence of a functional legislative arm that represents the people, noting that the strength of any democratic system lies in the quality of its representatives.

According to him, decisions taken by lawmakers shape policies and determine the direction of development in society.

The governor commended former legislators for their continued relevance, noting that many of them remain respected leaders and influential figures in their communities.

He added that despite leaving office, they still play vital roles in shaping public opinion and mobilising grassroots support.

Oyebanji said his administration places a premium on consensus building, stakeholder engagement and community mobilisation, adding that the forum would serve as a platform for interaction between government and the people.

He noted that the experience of former lawmakers at various levels of governance remains a valuable asset that could be harnessed for the development of the state.

The governor urged them to continue to partner with the government in advancing its shared prosperity agenda and overall development goals.

He reiterated his administration’s commitment to economic transformation through its Six Pillars of Development, calling on stakeholders to support government policies.
