400-level Varsity Undergraduate Faces Murder Charge Over Deliberate Hit-and-run of Policeman

For an attempted deliberate criminal act of hit-and-run of a policeman on duty, a 400-level student of the Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) in Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, has been arrested and will be charged for attempted murder, the Ogun State Police Command said.

The suspect, Victor Olabisi Oluwatimilehin, currently in police custody, was alleged to have committed the criminal act on the Ijebu-Ode/Ibadan Road on June 1, 2022.

Victor was said to be driving a Toyota Camry car, marked LND 929 GX, with full artificial tinted glasses when flagged down, for checking, by operatives of the Mobile Police Force (MPF 71), Awa-Ijebu.

According to the state Police Command spokesman (PPRO), DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the suspect was heading towards Ibadan in Oyo State with some house properties, “and was flagged down for checking, since the occupants of the vehicle were not visible from outside.

“But, instead of the driver to stop, he accelerated and intentionally knocked down one Inspector Idowu Moses attached to PMF 71, Awa-Ijebu, consequent upon which, the said inspector sustained serious bodily injuries and momentarily passed out”, Oyeyemi said in a press statement.

To prove it was a wilful act, the PPRO stated that, “Having knocked down the policeman, the driver continued his journey towards Ibadan Road, with the apparent belief that the policeman had died”.

The “seriously injured policeman” was rescued by his other colleagues and taken to hospital for treatment, while others took to trailing of the suspect, and caught up with him at a village close to Ibadan.
