2023: Former Governor Of Kano State, Shekarau Makes Case for Southern Presidential Candidate

 

The preparation for the forthcoming 2023 presidential election has now begin, as the election is around the corner. Ibrahim Shekarau, who is the former Governor of Kano State has advised the All Progressive Congress members, which is the ruling political party in Nigeria to pick the candidate for the forthcoming Presidential election from the Southern part of the country.

The former Governor made this statement during an interview with BBC Hausa.

The All Progressive Congress may not have ruling dictating that the Presidential candidate should to be zoned but however Shekarau accepts that history should be regarded and each Nigerian should have this feeling of belonging.

He also stated that, in Nigeria, we have six geopolitical zones, but the Nigeria Constitution doesn’t make arrangement for the Presidency to be rotated among these zones, which implies that, a zone from the six geopolitical zones can produce the President for as long as it could be allowed.

Notwithstanding, since the beginning of democracy in 1999 in Nigeria, the Presidents that have been ruling the country were chosen from the North and the South, where Olusegun Obasanjo, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan are both from the South West and South-South while Late Umar Yar’adua and Muhammadu Buhari were from the Northern part of the country.

However, President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration will be over in 2023 and the citizens of the country are now expecting the forthcoming election. APC has numerous individuals from the Southern part of the country that are capable of picking the Presidential ticket in 2023.
