Competitiveness, no doubt, is the hallmark of politics if it is played in the most refined form. Put simply, the game of politics is an interesting venture if it is devoid of bitterness, acrimony and schism.
Whenever the unguarded concept of propaganda, religiosity and “bad-belleism “ are incorporated in politicking , politics loses its intrinsic value.
Permit me to zero in on the subject-matter of the ongoing narrative surrounding the personality of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the APC presidential flag bearer, which was initially placed on the denigrating curve between the circumstances surrounding his parentage and his university education. Tinubu’s choice of running mate which recently triggered the Muslim-Muslim ticket brouhaha, no doubt ,has been given a premium attention in the social media.
The mind-boggling questions are: when will the naysayers stop stirring up a hornet’s nest? Why the fuss about Tinubu’s parentage, certificate and Muslim-Muslim ticket? Are university degrees, parentage, and Muslim-Muslim ticket a sine-qua-non for wresting the soul of our dear nation from the asphyxiating grips of political hucksters and bandits who are growing obese on and milking dry our Commonwealth?
Is a university certificate a necessary and sufficient condition for delivering the dividends of democracy to the teeming Nigerian populace who currently are in the throes of economic hardship and insecurity?
If a university degree did not qualify Bill Gates to do exploits in the world of technology; and if William Shakespeare, the greatest writer and the most read literary icon did not possess a university degree to produce a gamut of literary works, therefore, Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu does not need a university degree to replicate in Nigeria his laudable experience and achievements as the former governor of Lagos State if voted as the President of our dear nation.
Big thanks to our sacred Constitution for not stipulating that a presidential hopeful must bag a UNIVERSITY DEGREE to seek the plum job of ASO ROCK!
When shall we celebrate our own in Nigeria?
Biblically speaking, Jephtha, the renowned judge in Israel was banished because he was born out of wedlock yet he remained the corner-stone of the same family which rejected him.
The Muslim-Muslim ticket brouhaha is a mere religiously induced lexical derivative and an unfashionable potent divisive tool in the arsenal of the political pundits cum propagandists.
With due respect to our past and present leaders, the Christian-Christian ticket, Muslim-Christian ticket and the Heathen-Heathen ticket have never in any way put food on the table of the masses who are perpetually at the receiving end of bad governance in Nigeria.
It is high time we did away with the discordant tunes of propaganda, religious bigotry and “bad-belleism”.
Now is the time to convert the jangling discords of propaganda into a beautiful symphony of love and brotherhood. Let us work together to ensure that the author of “EMILOKAN”, Jagaban , Bola Ahmed Tinubu takes his rightful position in ASO ROCK come 2023.
