Some Governorship aspirants and their supporters on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in Ekiti State, on Monday engaged in a peaceful rally at Dalimore area, in Ado-Ekiti, the State capital, to condemn what they described as undemocratic tendencies and injustice that characterized the 177 ward Congress held over the weekend in Ado-Ekiti.
They alleged that the Congress was marred by the action of a chieftain of the party and a former governor of the state who hijacked the electoral materials, thereby dashing the hope of the aspirants and preventing the supporters who turned up in their numbers across the 177 wards from exercising their franchise.
Those at the rally include a former governor of the State, Chief Segun Oni, a former deputy governor of the State, who is also a member of the National Assembly, Senator Abiodun Olujimi, Chief Yinka Akerele and Chief Lateef Ajijola.
Speaking to journalists, Senator Abiodun Olujimi said there is need to resolve the political imbroglio that is undermining the PDP from moving forward in the State. She maintained that if naueating scenario is not addressed the for forthcoming gubernatorial election in the state with be tough for the party to clinch.
Senator Olujimi canvassed a round table discussion aimed addressing issues thrown up by the botched ward Congress, pointing out that justice should be allowed to prevailed in the interests of every aspirant, the party and the State.
Other aspirants who bared their minds expressed disgust over what happened on the day of the Congress. They appealed to the National leadership of the PDP not to treat such a disgraceful outing with kid gloves, underscoring the need to mete out necessary sanctions to those found culpable.
